Division of labor

Division of labor may lead to more wealth, but

  • division of labor can be a root of dissatisfaction and
  • division of labor can result in loss of understanding of the system / social system.

In total this will have a very negative effect on the whole society if people are not aware about and no measures for a comprehensive understanding of the social system are taken.

Root of dissatisfaction

Doing any kind of work for money and then buying other things for money, prevents a kind of emotional attachment, because there is no direct link between the work done and the result of the work.

There is a normalization effect and reduction to monetary value.

Based on the fact that nothing is perfect, the question is how far a bought product meets your expectations. Serial production with optimization and profit maximization will focus on the average customer. “Over engineering” expresses exactly this fact. Over engineered products will satisfy more customers and lead to a higher satisfaction overall………but this is exactly what does not happen with profit maximization.
Now, you can say, if you get all information you can check in advance how far a product meets your expectations, but how many information do you get ?

What makes this situation even worse are commercials which suggest a perfect product and raise expectations which are not met finally.

Contrary to this, if you do something by yourself, you focus exactly on that, what is most important for you.

The fatal thing is, that sophisticated products of a highly specialized society cannot be made by individuals….

In order to decrease dissatisfaction the quality of information has to be increased.

Loss of understanding of the system

Division of labor, which means that you do a limited part of the overall work only, will have the effect of specialization. The Optimization and specialization, includes a high risk of loosing the understanding of the whole system. Even if there is general understanding, the focus on profit maximization will ignore the system needs. With short term profit maximization, this effect will be even worse.

In order to reduce the negative effects a strategic orientation on sustainability on system level is absolutely necessary including breaking down the goal on all lower levels.

To achieve acceptance, education, training and information is very important.
